Apple has applied for the trademark rights to "iCloud" name with the Trade Marks and Designs Registration Office of the European Union. The "iCloud" is the Apple's new cloud services platform that will includes the delivering digital music by telecommunications, electronic storage, online social networking services, multimedia content for a fee or pre-paid subscription, computer software, electronic books and magazines, entertainment, photographic services, business management and advertising services, games, headgear and digital devices/computers.
In April, the Apple buys the domain name "iCloud.com" from Sweden-based Xcerion for $4.5 million.
Currently, the company is engaged in a legal battle with multiple fronts over gaining the rights to trademark "App Store" from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The Microsoft, HTC, Nokia, and Sony Ericsson have filed formal applications for a declaration of invalidity against Apple's trademarks for "App Store" and "Appstore". The company has already grabbed "App Store" and "Appstore" in Europe.

Apart from Apple, Douglas D. Baker, deals with computer software for mobile phones as well as the storage and archiving of electronic media, has filed for the same trademark in U.S.

iCloud is a cloud service offering from Apple Inc. On May 31, 2011, Apple announced in a press release that it will unveil the iCloud service on June 6, 2011. Initially it will be used for streaming music with a free trial for iTunes customers.
